AREVA NP to Work with C. R. Grantom P.E. & Associates to Help Utilities Increase Efficiency and Flexibility

CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 14, 2017 – AREVA NP today announced a teaming agreement with C. R. Grantom P.E. & Associates, LLC (CRG LLC) to offer risk-informed engineering programs to the nuclear energy industry. These programs help utilities increase efficiency and reduce operating and maintenance costs by categorizing plant equipment in accordance with its safety significance, allowing operators to place a greater focus on the equipment most important to plant safety.

The agreement combines AREVA NP’s engineering expertise with CRG LLC’s extensive experience implementing 10 CFR 50.69. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s 10 CFR 50.69 allows operators to categorize plant equipment using a risk-informed process. Based on that process, operators can adjust maintenance, engineering and procurement activities according to each piece of equipment’s safety significance.

“We constantly develop and explore new ways to help utilities operate their plants more efficiently and deliver on the nuclear promise,” said Craig Ranson, senior vice president of the Installed Base Business Unit in the United States. “By teaming with CRG LLC to offer risk-informed engineering programs, we can help operators increase operational flexibility, reduce operating and maintenance costs, and ultimately get their plants back online more quickly after maintenance outages.”

“Our team at CRG LLC has more than a decade of experience implementing 10 CFR 50.69, and teaming with AREVA NP will provide utilities with the most complete and comprehensive implementation available, including specific 10 CFR 50.69 procurement solutions,” said Rick Grantom, president of CRG LLC. “Combined with AREVA NP’s diverse capabilities in the nuclear energy sector, we can offer plant operators a full-scope solution that includes licensing amendment applications, equipment categorization, alternate treatments for equipment with lower safety significance, and unique, plant-specific 10 CFR 50.69 procurement solutions.”

AREVA NP brings to the team its expertise and resources as a parts vendor, distributor, fabricator and commercial-grade dedicator to support 10 CFR 50.69 procurement solutions. This is combined with CRG LLC’s work categorizing more than 100 systems and 75,000 components over the past decade. CRG LLC’s team of experts developed the proof of concept for what became 10 CFR 50.69 more than 10 years ago and supported the successful pilot application of 10 CFR 50.69 in 2014.

AREVA NP offers a full and innovative range of solutions and services to ensure the safety and competitiveness of in-service and future nuclear fleets, with experience across more than 250 reactors of all types of technologies.
